Mountaineering

In 2019, the following Mountaineering meet has been arranged: Monday-Friday 13th-17th  May 2019 at Alice Howe, Winderemere.  A Mountain Camp has been running since the 1940’s when it was formed with strong support from the then headmaster Sandy Henderson and a then Junior House master Oliver Tweedie- Stoddart under the auspices of the College. This subsequently became the Sternians Mountaineering Club and is now run solely by the Sternians.

After 50 years it continues to meet , usually 2 or 3 times a year, for 1 week in either Scotland,Wales or the Lake District. The event is based on organised accommodation and is open to partners and children as well. Even a family dog has been known to attend! Though there are a number of regulars we are very keen to attract new blood. The meet is not too strenuous and ages have ranged from 20 to 70 year olds in the past. You require good walking gear rather than Oxygen tanks! If you are interested in taking part then please contact for more information the Meet Secretary: Charles Lawrence cp.lawrence@btinternet.com
